What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

The Christmas Parade 2018 with my kids. It was my first as a Knoxville resident and a joyous time.

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

“The fears we face become our limits” I have been fortunate to have a couple of significant mentors in my life, and the best advice came from one who was truly inspiring in the way he perceived the world. He taught me to appreciate fear and to learn from failure, but to never accept the fear of failure as a reason to not try something. While there are still times in my life I seemingly forgot this important advice, or when I listened to my own doubt, I have never regretted the times I took that advice and pushed through the fear. It has led me to empowering experiences and a renewed belief in myself. As a leader, I hope to model that same mindset- a mindset that there is winning and there is learning…for even in losing you still gain something.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Surround yourself with people you admire, people you look up to, and those who inspire you. Don’t settle- challenge yourself and you may surprise yourself. Don’t waste time trying to prove your worth to people who don’t see your potential. Choose kindness, but do so honestly. Listen to others with an open heart and a discerning mind.
