What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

My vision for Knoxville is for it to be a bold city that has other cities saying, “Let’s be more like Knoxville!” What does that look like? Knoxville will be a clean and sustainable city, committed to its outdoor assets, maximizing its potential and taking a big risks for its future. Knoxville’s success is measured by its people and the region’s ability to have a big umbrella that cultivates everyone’s talents and passions.

What are you reading that is on your nightstand?

“The Boy, the mole, the fox and the Horse” by Charlie Mackesy

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

My favorite Knoxville memory is Vance League Baseball. This is a Knoxville treasure. Vance Link has pitched to generations of 6-7-year-olds. Both my boys found a love of baseball playing in this league. The sportsmanship and community fellowship is unlike anything else I’ve experienced. It was one of my favorite ways to spend a Saturday.

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

My mentors are a collective group of women that make up chapters in my life. When I have a big decision to make, an obstacle to overcome, professional or parenting question, I’m fortunate to know just the right person to guide me. Most recently I was told, “If you are not a little bit scared, you are not reaching far enough!”

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Life is happening–even at 16! Choose your own adventure and don’t allow the noise to distract you.
