What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

A community that honors the best parts of its heritage while embracing those with new ideas that keep us a vibrant and wonderful place to live.

What are you reading that is on your nightstand?

The Impeachers – The Trial of Andrew Johnson

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

As an 8 year old, the wonder and magic of the 1982 World’s Fair was incredible. The fun of going there with family members and seeing things like real mummies, robots that would write your name in Japanese, and arcades as big as the house you lived in were mind blowing. We would drive downtown almost every Friday night just to see the fireworks. Some of my favorite childhood memories.

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

I’ve been fortunate to have many wonderful folks guide me in my professional and personal life. One particular nugget of wisdom was related to having a new role and making change. It was shared with me by Ed Hoskins, former CEO of KUB. He told me, “don’t make any major changes for 90 days. Get a lay of the land before you make change”.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Buy lots of Apple stock.
