What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

Ten years from now, I hope Knoxville is considered one of the most inclusive, innovative communities in the country. Not only will our local college graduates want to stay in Knoxville, but top graduates from universities across the nation will have Knoxville at the top of their list for career opportunities. Our abundant outdoor recreation options and vibrant arts and entertainment community will continue to grow and attract young professionals to our city.

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

There are so many to choose from, but one that is uniquely Knoxville is Boomsday. I have many memories over many years with friends and family watching the fireworks on the river. Even when we didn’t attend, we enjoyed watching it on television. And of course, my favorite moment was the Rocky Top set!

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

A former boss once told me to speak with confidence and authority, especially when speaking to a superior. As a young woman in a new career, this was very important for me to hear. A good leader will want to hear my opinion and know I am confident in that opinion.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Say yes to opportunities. Don’t let fear and worry over the “what ifs” stop you from achieving your goals.
