What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

My vision for Knoxville 10 years from now is that bounty of Knoxville’s rich history, the diversity of its populace and the beauty and wealth of her natural resources are elevated to their highest and best use. My vision is that civic leaders and all who hold this city dear, balance and manage this blessing of treasures in a way that forces others to recognize, value and celebrate what we already know – Knoxville is truly one of the great cities of the world.

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

Bringing my precious son home from the hospital after his birth. As my wife and drove down our street we could see our home decorated in baby blue balloons, ribbons and streamers. This was a welcome sight after a long journey and not one that I will soon forget. It is a reminder to me that all the other stuff is simple by comparison.

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

Make full use of your unique gifts and talents, so that you can bring happiness to yourself and others-Madeleine Kamman

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Be bold and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. The best and most memorable lessons will be anchored by pain and sacrifice and the occasional mistake but they will also hold the highest value over time.
