What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

A vibrant, inclusive, increasingly diverse community with an equal commitment to economic development and entrepreneurship alongside robust social services, mental health support and viable, compassionate empowering solutions for our houseless neighbors. We have continued to invest in greenways and green spaces while increasing urban walkability and mixed use developments.

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

Just one of many favorite memories… I was very proud of Mayor Rogero’s role and Knoxville’s role in the historic Supreme Court decision granting marriage equality on June 26, 2015. On a whim we went downtown that night and ended up in the midst of a humanity affirming, joyous, uplifting community celebration that began at World’s Fair Park and spilled over into downtown.

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

Advice of my father – “If you are going to do something do it well”. Balanced by advice of a former boss and now dear friend, Peggy Happy – “perfectionism becomes procrastination which becomes paralysis”.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Every relationship, place you live, job and opportunity is but what you make of it.
