What is your vision for Knoxville 10 years from now?

I would love to see Knoxville as a peaceful place…growing, thriving and taking its place as a leading city in the southeast both culturally and in business development. I would also love to see that we have taken advantage of and developed the incredible outdoor resources we have been blessed to have here.

What are you reading that is on your nightstand?

What is your favorite Knoxville memory?

Growing up going to Market Square and the farmer’s market with my mom. Additionally, watching the giant Christmas tree lighting that used to occur around Thanksgiving at the Miller’s on Henley St. I also remember watching the Christmas parade from the 4th floor of the Miller’s on Gay Street where my dad worked.

What is the best advice you have received from a mentor, and who was that mentor?

I actually have two…both were my pastors. Phil Jones encouraged a prayer to “make our dreams greater than our memories“ and Adrian Rogers said that we don’t live by explanations. Life is not a problem to solve; it’s a mystery to be lived and that sometimes we must back off and simply see the hidden hand of God.

What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?

Trust in the Lord, seek His wisdom and learn patience. Remember life is about service and never forget to be be grateful.
